Transforming Mental Health in Atlanta

Building a community where every young mind can thrive through connection, education, and accessible support

Founded by Taylor Harper and Samuel West, The Atlanta Mind Project emerged from a shared vision to address the critical gap in mental health accessibility for Atlanta's youth. We recognized that while awareness was growing, practical, affordable resources remained out of reach for too many young people.

Our journey began with a simple but powerful belief: mental health care should be as accessible as physical health care. In a state where Georgia ranks 49th in mental health care accessibility, and where 67% of youth with depression never receive treatment, our mission became clear and urgent.

"We started The Atlanta Mind Project because we saw our friends and community members struggling in silence. Mental health shouldn't be a luxuryβ€”it's a fundamental human right that every young person in Atlanta deserves."

β€” Taylor Harper & Samuel West, Co-Founders

Today, we've grown into a movement that blends education with empathy, and awareness with action. We create spaces where vulnerability is strength, where conversations about mental health are normalized, and where every young person knows they're not alone in their struggles.

Through our innovative approach that combines workshops, community events, digital resources, and partnerships with local organizations, we're breaking down barriers and building bridges to mental wellness for Atlanta's next generation.

Our Comprehensive Approach

🎯

Mental Health Education & Literacy

We provide evidence-based mental health education through interactive workshops, seminars, and digital resources. Our curriculum covers emotional intelligence, stress management, coping strategies, and recognizing signs of mental health challenges.

Awareness Campaigns & Community Outreach

We lead city-wide awareness initiatives including Mental Health Awareness Month in May and Suicide Prevention Month in September. Our campaigns use social media, community events, and partnerships to destigmatize mental health conversations.

🀝

Peer Support & Safe Spaces

We facilitate peer support groups and create safe, inclusive environments where young people can share experiences without judgment. Our trained facilitators guide conversations that build community and reduce isolation.

Resource Navigation & Crisis Support

We connect Atlanta youth with free and low-cost mental health resources, including counseling services, crisis hotlines, and emergency support. Our resource guides help navigate the complex mental health landscape.

The Challenge We're Addressing

49th Georgia's national ranking in mental health care accessibility
67% Of Georgia youth with depression never receive treatment
34% Of adults cannot afford mental health care
1 in 25 Atlanta adults experience serious suicidal thoughts

Why Our Approach Works

Youth-Centered Design

All our programs are co-designed with young people to ensure they're relevant, engaging, and address real needs. We listen first, then build solutions that resonate with Atlanta's diverse youth population.

Community Partnership Model

We collaborate with schools, community centers, and local organizations to extend our reach and impact. By working together, we create a network of support that surrounds young people with care.

Evidence-Informed Practices

Our methods are grounded in psychological research and best practices while remaining flexible enough to meet the unique cultural and social needs of Atlanta's communities.

🎯

Our Mission

To empower teens and young adults in Atlanta to take control of their mental and emotional wellbeing through awareness, education, and accessible resources that promote healing, resilience, and self-confidence. We believe in meeting young people where they are with the support they need to thrive.

πŸ‘οΈ

Our Vision

To build an Atlanta where every young person feels safe to speak, supported to heal, and inspired to thriveβ€”a city where mental health is valued as much as physical health, where asking for help is seen as strength, and where comprehensive support is never out of reach.
